The Bone Collectors
Having a hard time finding a place that is just for people that focus on collecting bones? Well I had that problem and this blog is to unite the novice and the seasoned bone collectors. Here there will be pictures of different kinds of bones, how-to's, and anything else I can find that pertains to bone collecting and a little bit of taxidermy. (Pelt and limb preservation, jewelry, etc)
Me, being a bone collecting novice, will try to help put forth as much information as possible so we can all expand our knowledge, bring back this dying art that's most commonly frowned upon and have a bad-ass collection of bones ;D

I thought I’d throw in a few photos of the fox skulls post acid bath, just because the before and after is always so striking to me.
Although I don’t always have a new project to blog about, at least I will never run out of material if I post about every specimen in our collections — over 24,000! Every day is like Christmas in the museum — opening boxes and discovering all of these awesome treasures inside. This week my mind was blown by the two-toed sloth skull. For being one of the slowest mammals alive, it has some of the fiercest teeth I’ve ever seen! I guess you need to have some kind of defense when you’re an easy target like the sloth. Did you know they can‘t shiver in order to stay warm like other mammals?! Their metabolism is that slow.
The last photo of this set is a family of naked mole rats that one of our volunteers skinned during our open house earlier this month. The pups are preserved in alcohol. Fun fact about the naked mole rat is that they lack pain sensation in their skin.
I had been dying to go to the only bone museum in the United States, the Museum Of Ostelology in Oklahoma. So that’s why I was super stoked to go there yesterday armed with a camera. I loved it so much there is a 100% chance I will be visiting again soon.
